On May 20, 1902, the boarding section of the National Institute of Chile changed its address to operate independently, becoming the National Boarding School —renamed in 1907 as the Barros Arana National Boarding School—, which was its official founding date, as well as that of its school football club, the Boarding School Football Club.

After participating in interscholastic competitions, from 1905 Internado FC began to officially participate in the Arturo Prat Association Municipal Cup (AAP), a competition that brought together teams from different educational institutions in Santiago, in which it became champion in 1907 and then again in 1910.

The following year, players, directors of Internado FC, and students from the University of Chile, led by Carlos Fanta, proposed going beyond student competitions and decided to incorporate a team into the Santiago Football Association (AFS), the entity in which the main clubs of the capital operated. Finally, on March 25, 1911, with the support of the FECH (Federation of Chilean Students), Club Atlético Internado was founded, whose football branch was known as Internado Football Club, representing the footballers graduating from that educational establishment in the various official competitions of the capital, while the school branch continued to participate in school tournaments. Internado FC registered with the Santiago Football Association on March 30, 1912, from which date it competed uninterruptedly, winning the AFS Chile Cup in 1921 and 1923, among other titles. The founding date of Internado—March 25, 1911—was recorded by the directors of Club Deportivo Universidad de Chile in the 1941 annual report of the Central Football Association—now ANFP —and included in the corporate information provided by the club's institutional magazine between 1945 and 1953. It has also been recorded in various publications and by different authors as the official founding date of Universidad de Chile.
